Personal development books have changed the game.
Books are a phenomenal resource for learning, “traveling”, imagination, & connection. I remember when I was younger, getting completely lost in a good book was one of my favourite things. I’d read stories over and over again and it’s like time didn’t exist. I got to choose what kind of world I wanted to adventure in whether it was a intriguing storyline or something I could learn from.
I lost sight of this enjoyment after having to read one boring textbook after another in school to the point where it felt like a chore – I couldn’t just enjoy the book and learn from it, I had to write papers & essays & answer an unnecessary amount of questions that I felt took away from my creative freedom and enjoyment of each book.
Though looking back I realize this was because what I was reading, wasn’t something I was passionate about. It didn’t light me up. It was dry material and all hypothetical. I struggled to apply it. Until I discovered personal development books – all about self growth & mindset. Books to help me level up in life.
One day I walked past a book store at my local shopping centre and a particular green cover and the words “you are a badass” caught my eye. There was a $15 sticker on it and I thought “hell yeah I am. Let’s see what this is about – what have I got to lose”. The lady who sold the book to me asked if I’ve read it before or if I’ve heard of the author and I didn’t. She looked at me and said “this book is going to change your life”.
I didn’t think much of it but thanked her for the inspiration and went about my day. I was eager to get back into reading again, this time with a book I was pumped about. I started the first page and I was HOOKED.
3 Personal Development Books That Changed My Life
- You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero
This was the first personal development book I’ve read and I am absolutely amazed by the content value that is inside this little book.
Whether you struggle with money mindset or not, I HIGHLY recommend giving this book a read – the topics included can be applied to so many aspects of your life outside of your financial realm.
Money mindset was something I’d never (ever) paid any attention to and trading time for money was something I’ve never been interested in – but I wasn’t aware of any other way.
I wasn’t taught anything about money in school other than how to calculate interest and work a balance sheet, which hasn’t yet been helpful might I add haha.
This book has taught me EVERYTHING from transforming beliefs about money and myself, how to use money, how to attract money, building a healthy relationship with money and so. much. more.
2. The Dark Side of The Light Chasers by Debbie Ford
I was working with a mentor who suggested I read this multiple times and I had kept putting it off at first and wow do I wish I read it sooner.
This book was a game changer in terms of how I view, treat, and am affected by those around me. It has fully allowed me to reclaim my self love and compassion and further spread that to others. It has helped me understand myself and my peers and to let go of shit I held on to for so long. It’s beautifully written with exercises in each chapter to apply your learning which is one of my favourite components of a self growth book!
3. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra
If you are interested in the Law of Attraction, manifestation, and allll of that good stuff – this one’s for you.
I’m still shocked how a 39 page book could hold so much magic, and after I read it I felt really connected to myself and humanity again. I felt like I gained huge insight on how to live, connect, and share my purpose with my fellow human beings.
My highest vision in life has always been to make a positive impact in the lives of others. To be helpful, to motivate, to inspire – and these three books have opened up the doors for change and shifts in my personal mindset & I have no doubts they will do the same for you.
If you have read, or choose to read any of these books I’d LOVE to hear what you thought about them – what you’ve learned & how they’ve helped you!! Leave a comment down below <3
With love xx
